DID YOU KNOW???

Dr Suess, was not really a doctor! He just decided to call himself a doctor!
His real name was Theodore Suess Geisel. He took his middle name and used it as his surname.
He was born on March 2nd, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts, in the United States of America.

He wrote and illustrated "The Cat In The Hat" because at the time, he was told that children were not learning to read very well because the books available were too boring!
He then got 220 of words that were easiest for children to read and only used those. He published that book in 1957. This book was really popular, so he published a sequel "The in the Hat Comes Back" the year later in 1958.
Dr Suess's books have sold over 222 million copies, in 15 different languages.
He has won lots of awards over his career, including 2 Oscar awards, 2 Emmy awards, a Peabody award, and a Pulitzer prize (www.wikipedia.org, 2012).
